Atec, Inc. spent the day at the Shell Houston Open, a PGA Tour tournament sponsored by Shell and the Houston Golf Association. The event is staffed by volunteers from the various charities who benefit from the tournament’s proceeds, solicited pledges, and contributions. One of Atec’s newest team members, tech writer Kristena Ducre, volunteered with Project Joy and Hope this year, transporting handicapped spectators and media personalities across the tournament’s grounds.

Atec is a proud supporter of Project Joy and Hope, a greater Houston-area organization founded by Dr. Jan Wheeler to “enhance the quality of life of children and families who live with life-limiting conditions” by providing housing, financial support and scholarships, bereavement counseling, and programs such as teacher training programs that provide techniques for helping grieving students.

Atec’s CEO Howard Lederer is a founding member of Project Joy and Hope and also serves as the Board Chairman. Volunteers from Atec attend the Shell Houston Open every year to work the tournament alongside Project Joy and Hope’s many enthusiastic volunteers.

The weather was overcast and chilly, but luckily the rain waited until the day’s playing was done.  The tournament ended on April 6, 2014 with winner Matt Jones overtaking score leader Matt Kuchar at the last hole.
